NEW FLASH – SHIPPING LINES INCREASE RATRES & CUT FREE TIME

As we head into the peak shipping season shipping lines continue to ratchet up the pressure on importers and exporters. 

September brings further bad news, as lines announce a combination of General Rate Increases (GRI), with several lines reducing their free time allowance down to 10 & even 7 days.

 

North Asian (China) – GRI

USD 500/20’

USD 1000/40’

 

South East Asia & Sub-Continent – GRI

USD 200-400/20’

USD 400-800/40’

 

GRI’s are expected to result in a further increase to LCL rates.

As the worldwide shortage in container equipment (empty containers) worsens, shipping lines are no longer providing leniency in the area of returning import containers on time.

To avoid unnecessary additional charges we ask all clients to be especially mindful of free time arrangements and look to unload/return containers at the earliest possible time.
