Major Fumigation Delays - Import Containers

7/1/2019

To Our Valued Clients

BRi import clients would be aware that we are currently in the middle of the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug ( BMSB ) season. This has resulted in a significant increase in the number of import containers requiring fumigation and/or inspection here in Australia.  All Quarantine approved depots have done their best to accommodate industry during this extremely busy period however certain factors have contributed to additional, unprecedented delays, namely :-

The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources ( DAWR ) have placed limits on the times they can inspect and release containers

  • Some fumigation companies closed ( for a well-earned break ) over the Christmas-New Year period
  • Most depots are now at capacity and unable to accept additional containers until the backlog reduces.

BRi will always endeavour to provide the best possible service to our customers and will utilise the services of additional service providers where necessary to meet our customer’s requirements. Having said that, given the above extreme unique circumstances, we must warn import customers that delays may be incurred for containers subject to DAWR measures.

Our Customs Team will keep you updated of any developments.
