CHANGES TO IMPORT PERMIT REQUIREMENTS – USED MACHINERY

3/6/2016

The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources ( DAWR ) has today announced an important change for importers of used machinery. The long-standing requirement that all imported used machinery be covered by a valid Import Permit will be removed effective June 16, 2016.  This means that any used machinery, used equipment and used parts imported into Australia on/after 16 June will no longer require an Import Permit. The DAWR have advised that the aim of this new arrangement is “to reduce costs and the regulatory burden to importers.”  Please be aware that all used machinery will still be subject to a DAWR inspection upon arrival and, should any “risk material”(such as dirt) be found, further cleaning will be required.

Please feel free to contact the BRi Customs team should you have any queries in relation to this new arrangement.

Keeping you updated,

BRi Customs Department
