National Congestion at Empty Dehire Depots

19/5/2022

Dear Valued Customers

Over the last few weeks transport carriers Nationally have been experiencing congestion at the empty dehire depots with some empty depots rejecting containers for dehire due to capacity issues.

The flow of information from the empty parks does not allow them to forward plan in most instances.

This is putting a strain in the logistics sector where carriers need to take containers via their depot and store until empty depots can take them. Carriers do not have the capacity to store all containers in their yard, therefore they need to use different facilities (assuming they have space also) to store containers, until they get confirmation one of the empty depots will accept the container(Empties go back to carriers’ yard), this comes at a cost to carriers which unfortunately have no choice but to pass these charges on.

We are working closely with assisting our carriers, talking to shipping lines for alternate depots sites and having them assist us with any detention that may occur due to this current crisis.

We are monitoring the situation closely and will keep you updated.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our dedicated transport team.
