Further business disruption - unprotected industrial action (Melbourne Stevedores)

8/12/2017

Dear Customers,

Over the past fortnight there has been illegal picketing at VICT, Webb Dock East (Melbourne terminal). VICT is only a recent Stevedore operation with minimal trade flowing through the terminal (approx. 5-10% of overall container movements).

This morning we have received advice that industrial action will now take place at other major terminals. At this stage it is unclear whether this has any correlation to the VICT protest.

Specifically, DP World Australia have advised that other terminals in Melbourne may face business disruption through unprotected industrial action from 0900hrs until 1400hrs.

"To ensure all external traffic on site is handled, we will unfortunately have to close our gates at 0800hrs and cancel all bookings from 0800hrs to 1400hrs. We apologise for any inconvenience and we will keep you updated on developments".

We are currently in the middle of peak season with an influx of deliveries required over the next fortnight with no doubt this will add further pressures to all supply chains involved.

We are closely monitoring the situation and will be sure to contact any deliveries that may be impacted.

For any further information, please contact your BRi Transport representative.

Keeping you updated,

BRi Transport Department
