PEAK SEASON AND BMSB IMPACTS

24/10/2019

To our Valued Customers,

As we head into the middle of Peak Season shipping, the industry is forecasting similar delays to that experienced last season.

The combined increase in container volumes along with the Department of Agriculture’s focus on Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) season, will have the following impacts;

  • Extensive queues resulting in waiting time dropping off/collecting BMSB containers from Quarantine treatment facilities
  • CFS / Empty Park capacities and delays associated with return of empty containers
  • Reduction in fleet capacity due to the above, resulting in additional time taken to complete container movements, such as deliveries, empty container collection and container de-hire activities

With effect 4th November 2019 – 31st January 2020, the general industry allowance for empty containers being returned within 48 hours from time advised empty, will be extended to 72 hours (3 working days).

This will mean importers requiring “Sideloader or Drop Trailer deliveries” will need to prioritise the unpacking of containers to allow for an additional day of return and reduce the possibility of container detention.

We strongly encourage this message being passed onto stock & warehouse planners to ensure receipt and unpacking of containers takes a priority during this period.
