Temporary By-law covering goods to be used in response to COVID-19 Pandemic

To our Valued Customers,

 

BR International would like to inform its clients that a new Customs By-law will be gazetted in coming days which will provide tariff relief on a range of products  such as personal protective equipment, medical products and disinfectant goods for the COVID-19 pandemic. We are awaiting official Australian Border Force ( ABF ) notification and gazetting however it will enable the following products to be imported free of duty, irrespective of their country of origin :-

 

  • Any of the following equipment that, when worn, is capable of limiting the transmission of organisms to humans :

( i ) face masks

( ii ) gloves

( iii ) clothes or gowns

( iv ) goggles, glasses, eye visors or face shield

  • Disinfectant preparations, excluding hand sanitisers
  • Soaps
  • COVD-19 test kits, reagents and viral transport media

 

The By-law will be operative from 1 February 2020 until, at this time, 30 July, 2020. This means refunds for duty on consignments cleared since February 1 will be available.

 

We would like to remind importers they should investigate whether their goods will require import approval from various departments, such as the Department of Agriculture, water and the Environment ( “Quarantine” ), the Therapeutic Goods Administration ( TGA ) or the National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment Scheme ( NICNAS ) prior to importing any of the above products.
