BRi USA NEWS - Delayed Implementation of Licenses for Imports of Aluminium Products

27/1/2021

Dear all Valued Customers

Pursuant to the White House Chief of Staff’s memorandum concerning “Regulatory Freeze Pending Review” issued on January 20, 2021, the U.S. Department of Commerce is delaying the effective date of the final rule, entitled “Aluminium Import Monitoring and Analysis System,” from January 25, 2021 to March 29, 2021.

The final rule was published on December 23, 2020 and can be viewed via the following link

https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2020/12/23/2020-28166/aluminum-import-monitoring-and-analysis-system

The Department of Commerce has submitted a notice to the Federal Register delaying the effective date of the final rule in order to allow the incoming Administration time to review the final rule and consider any additional comments before implementation.

This delay means that licenses will no longer be required for covered aluminium product imports beginning on January 25, 2021, as was previously stated in the final rule.

Unless otherwise announced, the final rule will go into effect, and licenses will be required, beginning on March 29, 2021.
