Container Park Delays Effecting all Container Returns - MELBOURNE

Container Park Delays Effecting all Container Returns

The Christmas peak has flowed on into the New Year with no signs of improvement causing unacceptable truck queuing delays at empty container parks in Melbourne.  Numerous empty parks have reached their operational capacity causing unacceptable level of wait times which has lead to increased costs and extreme operational and administrative frustration for road transport operations.

There has also been an increase in redirection of trucks from one Empty yard to another and queuing times in a lot of instances have been greater than 1hour to collect empty containers for exports or to de-hire empty import containers.  In addition to these costs Transport Companies are also bearing the cost of expenses imposed by Vic Roads or Police via infringement notices for queuing on roadways in and around the empty container parks.

BRi has absorbed these costs to date and with no end in sight we now need to discuss recovery of these costs going forward.

The main cost impact is as follows:

  • If a truck is diverted to another container park due to congestion or  no space
  • If a truck is forced to wait in a queue for more than an hour

We apologise for this situation and advise that the Victorian Transport Association are taking steps to liaise with Vic Roads, Victoria Police and Shipping Australia to implement systems to alleviate these problems.
